A big thank you to all those who replied.

In the end, I used winzip to unpack mssqlserver.tar onto my desktop and
just copied the 3 jar files to the AS400. I have just completed a JDBC
connection and data extraction test and it all appears to be working OK.

The MS driver is free to use provided it is not redistributed and there is
a valid MS SQLSever 2000 licence.

On the MS download site there are 2 possible JDBC download files:
mssqlserver.tar and setup.exe. Either way, these should be unpacked with
linux or windows first. I prefer using the tar file as it's possible to
just extract the files you require - primarily the jars! However, for the
documentation, it might be better to run the setup.exe on the desktop
giving easy access to the docs and then just copy the jar files.

Regards,

Keith
