Title: RE: ORDER BY ? PARAMETER ??

I don't know anything about JAVA, SERVLETS etc.. but you might have better luck using the ordinal instead of the name or the question mark. Is the question mark used to make the sort variable? optional? in any case try the sql as

SELECT * FROM LIB.CUST ORDER BY n (where n is the position of the column in the row)

Subject: ORDER BY ? PARAMETER ??

Is it possible to sort a database with an HTML form to select the sort
criteria value and then  passing the value as a parameter to a servlet? The
following code snippet from my servlet will not work with ? for ORDER BY:
Do you have any suggestions?

 String parameter = null;
            if ((request.getParameter("SORT")) == null)
                     stmt = conn.prepareStatement("SELECT * FROM LIB.CUST"
+
                   " ORDER BY cmgage "); // Execute the query
                else {
             parameter = request.getParameter("SORT");
         stmt = conn.prepareStatement("SELECT * FROM LIB.CUST " +
        " ORDER BY ? " ); // Execute the query
       stmt.setString(1, parameter);
