Greetings and salutations, I have been programming on the AS/400 for 9 years using RPG and Lansa. Just recently I was promoted to Manager of Info Systems. I have serious interest in Java and the thin client (IBM NS). I am using IBM VisualAge for Java and training my staff on the Java Language. I would recommend staying away from the JDK and AS/400 Toolkit unless you like pain. An IDE makes life easier and VisualAge has included bean technology that facilitates the use of AS/400 specific classes to access data, etc. I just purchased Seagull JWalk (5250 to Java) to handle our legacy stuff.
