Yeah, there's no -C option, so it's not doing copy-style therefore no
DAOS... :)

There are no DAOS messages in the console.
Ran it again - still no messages regarding DAOS on the console.
Started server, dropped server, ran it again. Still no messages regarding
DAOS on the console and no data in the DAOS directory.
Started server. Ran
load compact -c -daos on -ZU -n -v
Now I am seeing numerous "Informational, DAOS has been enabled for
database..." messages. And, entries in
.../Data/DAOS

Sure looks like a server down compact won't do it. Don't suppose it's a
-C versus a -c thing, eh?

DAOS compact works fine with server offline.

Probably the timing issue - if you enabled xlogging and daos at the same
time, then the server would first create xlogs at next restart and DAOS
may
not fire up properly. I usually create xlogs, restart, then enable DAOS
and
restart.

I just tried this on another server

and I am seeing a lot of "Informational, DAOS has been enabled for

So I am figuring it's down to a few things
- that DAOS compact can't be done with the server down.
- something about 1 more server start that got it going and allowed the
daos compact to work.

How do I know if DAOS is working?
http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/dominowiki.nsf/dx/daos-quick-start-guide

1 - Upgraded to 8.5
show server
Lotus Domino (r) Server (Release 8.5.0FP1 for i5/OS)

2 - Transactional logging
show server
Transactional Logging: Enabled

3 - Disabled shared mail
Shared Mail: None
Wasn't ever enabled.

4 - DAOS tab
DAOS Settings
Store file attachments in DAOS: Enabled
Minimum size of object before Domino will store in DAOS: 64000
DAOS base path: DAOS
Defer object deletion for: 30 days
notes ini: Create_R85_Databases=1
show server
DAOS: Enabled

With the server down, I ran:
RUNDOMCMD SERVER(…server…)
CMD(CALL PGM(COMPACT) PARM('-C –daos on -ZU -n -v'))
BATCH(*YES) ALWMLTTHD(*YES)
Ran for long time.
WRKLNK '/NOTES03/NOTES/DATA/DAOS/*'
... nothing ...
Does leaving nothing between '-daos on' and '-ZU' imply all? Or is
there
some other way to say all?
Because I reran this with the server up with
load compact -c -daos on mail/cedwards.nsf
08/31/2009 09:17:27 Informational, database design compression is
enabled in database mail/cedwards.nsf.

08/31/2009 09:17:27 Informational, DAOS has been enabled for database

08/31/2009 09:17:27 Compacting mail/cedwards.nsf (Chris Edwards)
...
08/31/2009 09:19:09 Recovery Manager: Assigning new DBIID for
/NOTES03/NOTES/DATA/mail/cedwards.nsf (need new backup for media
recovery).
08/31/2009 09:19:09 Compacted mail/cedwards.nsf, 3620K bytes
recovered
(1%)
08/31/2009 09:19:11 Database compactor process shutdown
WRKLNK '/NOTES03/NOTES/DATA/DAOS/*'
now there's something.
