Greetings!

At the expo at COMMON in Indianapolis, Violaine showed me some of the enhancements for WSDc 5.0. I am looking forward to getting my hands on the new version at the end of April. To prepare I have been working here with 4.0 and trying to get acquainted with it. One of the limitations I have found in the RSE is the ability to drill down from library - to object - to member. Somewhat like PDM is capable of doing. What I would like is the ability to filter on library, then from that subset of library, filter down to objects, then members (if appropriate). I have noticed when I filter libraries, I can see all the objects in the library, but I can not filter that view any further. When I create an object filter, I can see all of the source physical files, but then I can't filter that view of the source files any further. I can create a member filter, and that is good, but there are some limitations there as well. What I would request (please?!) is more of a tree view where I can create a subset of libraries, then filter the objects within that view of libraries, then (if appropriate) filter the members within those source file objects. That way I can see a graphical representation of what objects are in which library, rather than see a list of objects, and have to click on them to see what library they are in.

Example: (and I know this won't line up nicely when you get it!)

- LibraryA
  - PgmA.pgm
  - PgmB.pgm
  - QCLSRC.file.src
        PgmA.clle
        Pgmb.clle
  + QCBLSRC.file.src
  + QDDSSRC.file.src
   - QRPGSRC.file.src
         PgmC.rpg
- LibraryB
  - PgmA.pgm
  - PgmB.pgm
- LibraryC
  - QCLSRC.file.src
        PgmA.clle
        Pgmb.clle
  + QCBLSRC.file.src
  + QDDSSRC.file.src
  + QRPGSRC.file.src

Also the function to drag an icon (object or member) from one library or source file to another to do a copy. You already have the right click to do a delete, which can be good and bad.

If these functions are not in WSDc 5.0, then I would request them (please, Please, PLEASE) for a future release.

I really enjoyed meeting Violaine and George, and look forward to meeting Hak, Edmund, and the rest of the developement team at future COMMON conferences.

Thanks for all you do!!

The classic tools are all there (minus some bugs thankfully).
The only thing to watch for is during the install. By default the
shortcuts and help for classic tools will not be installed. You simply
need to check off that you want them too. (The tools themselves will
always be installed but the help is a huge number of files so we have made
it optional).

You will want to have another crack at RSE. There has been huge
improvements in function. For working offline, you will find that iSeries
Projects will have superceded the function of CPO.

I'm eager to upgrade.

But I want to be aware of any new limitations placed on CPO, CODE,
DESIGNER, the
EVFCFDBK program on the iSeries, and/or the help system within CODE.

Are there any?

When I'm local, I use PDM and start CODE and DESIGNER by calling EVFCFDBK.
When I'm remote, I use CPO.

I'm trying to use RSE but I still don't have the knack of it.
