I have not gone over to the Dark Side yet (there's still time, however) and
know nothing at all about Windows programming.  I assume when you File|Exit,
the program goes into some termination process.  I assume when you click the
Close button, the program is signaled that the Close button was clicked and
is activated.  So why can't CODE work like every other Windows application?
Go figure.

MRU: this is rich!  I had a telephone call with a CODE IBM'er in touch with
the IBM'er maintaining the core LPEX editor; the LPEX person (not in the
CODE group) insisted there was no way the MRU could get scrambled by an
abnormal termination of CODE.  Remember the Mel Brooks movie, "Robin Hood:
Men In Tights"?  Watch Prince John, played by Richard Lewis: the mole on his
face moves around throughout the movie.  A perfect analogy for the MRU
list...

In fairness to all concerned, I suspect the Windows environment is
murderous.  I wonder when the Linux version of Eclipse will be announced?

Every VB developer with any experience knows that you can tell how your app
exits, whether via the X or an End command or whatever. Same for when you
use MFC. I mean, Windows is sending the message out, for pity's sake! Not
to save the settings when the X is used, must be a conscious decision,
along the lines of F12 is CA12 and F3 is CF03. I understand that the
pathway through IBm changes is long, but this is NOT hard. The code to save
the stuff is already there, just change your IF statement and connect to
the code. Yikes!

Lose the MRU list? EVERY other Windows app can preserve these things. Come
on, IBM, get with the progam!
