AutoSave and Recovery

Hello,

Before I start redoing this morning's work, does anyone know how to figure
out where the Autosave files are stored?  The help file says "The
environment variable CODETMPDIR points to the directory where you can find
the save files. The names of the save files are randomly generated and
contain the same extensions as the original files. "
However, I cannot seem to find where the environment variables are shown.
I tried opening up the source, and contrary to help text, don't think I was
prompted for having a save file available.
