Project opened transaction

Dear all,
I would really appreciate some advice regarding projects in BPCS. Does BPCS 
support projects at all? 

We need to setup system to support company which track costs by projects (power 
generators production). They have long development/production cycles, each 
generator has dedicated project number and all costs are tracked by that 
number. Is there such possibility in BPCS ( V 8.1 C/S )?

What is the purpose of Project opened transaction? It does not affect anything 
and leave no trace in transaction archive when I post it directly from 
inventory transactions (INV500D).

Any help is more than welcome.
