Hi Oludare,

I get a bit confused on step 6 and 7 as to why you are clearing data and
what is moving where. At any rate, as far as data goes, MM and CS are the
same. There are no differences in the files. Program objects are even the
same for batch programs between the 2 flavors, but program objects are
different for the display programs and there are extra 'runtime'
communications objects and libraries for CS (ie, full GUI) so that the
AS/400 talks back to the PC.

You can share 1 data files library between Mixed Mode 6.1.00 and Full
Client/Server 6.1.00 (or 6.1.01 of each flavor of BPCS). You don't need to
clear data between the Mixed Mode and C/S testing if you don't want to. This
could save you time, as you can test concurrently, as long as you have space
to load 1 more set of object libraries.

For instructions on how to configure the library lists to share the data
files library for 2 different sets of program objects, see the OGS Online
web site. There is a Helpline product support document that outlines how to
share the files library on AS/400 between MM and CS. In fact, this is how we
are configured at SSA GT so that our development and testing of each program
change is sped up by having the same data files shared.

The PC software is the same also. The Full C/S installation on the PC merely
installs some additional programs, but for example the Fat Client DFS
programs are the exact same ones, and the directory structure is the same.
Therefore, if you load the Full C/S version of the PC client, you can test
both the thin client and fat client applications. You won't need to load 2
different sets of PC programs if you don't want to, unless you want to
compare space differences on the PC.

I would definitely follow (or even exceed) the recommended PC speed and
memory requirements listed in the installation instructions if you are going
to do a test of Full C/S BPCS. It will use more memory than the MM version
does, because all BPCS programs will be run from the PC.

You can not share your data files between 6002 and 6100 programs, just to be
clear. But if you are trying to decide between the same level of BPCS
programs in MM and CS BPCS, it may be faster to configure to share the files
library, so that you don't have to reconvert data or clear anything out. You
can do a test in MM, and then do the same test in CS and see which one you
like best, using the same data this way, testing concurrently.

Just a thought.

Thanks

Genyphyr Novak
