  • Subject: ** ADMIN ** Job Posting Question
  • From: DAsmussen@xxxxxxx

Folks,

I want to thank you all for your input on this subject, and for your
encouragement regarding continuing BPCS-L as a whole. It was great hearing
from so many of you that have never posted before! Unfortunately, no clear
winner has yet emerged. Being a "Robert's Rules of Order" afficionado from
way back, I need a clear majority in order to remove job postings as an
option and I have yet to receive even a simple majority on the matter. In
fact, the split would be one vote were I to consolidate the "Don't Care"
votes with the "Keep It" votes out of the 33 responses received so far.

I really expected the international community to rise up over this issue,
since many of them (simplified) pay a "per message" fee for Internet access
and most of the job postings are US-based. Yet, other than an odd disparity
between Australia and New Zealand (Australia=Kibosh, New Zealand=Keep), the
votes of the international community have been overwhelmingly in favor of
keeping job postings as part of the list. France, Belgium, Denmark, New
Zealand, and England have all asked to keep the job postings active. Not to
say that nobody from the aforementioned countries opposed keeping jobs on the
list. The overwhelming sentiment seems to be that BPCS people like to see
what other BPCS people earn. Perhaps I should just require that all job
posters include a salary range?

In order to accomodate those that don't answer e-mail daily, I'll keep this
poll open until next Friday (first Friday in June). If you care whether or
not jobs are posted on BPCS-L, please respond if you haven't done so already.
So far, there seems to be greater sentiment against the "me too" messages
and thinly veiled advertisements from vendors and consultants that appear on
the list...

Thanks!
