Well it would have to be very old to be purely procedural. Anyone developing JS apps in the last 10 years would surely be used to async programming (good old AJAX). And of course node.js is all async. Even classes have been around for ages. The beauty of typescript and Babel is that you can use the latest syntax even if the underlying version of node.js doesn’t yet support it natively (like “await” for example).

But the point of this is that typescript and Babel etc should not be seen as a reason to steer clear of libraries like Angular, React, Vue etc - it’s a good thing.

Kevin,

but you must agree that the async/eventdriven/component-based
Typescript/javascript we use today is quite
another ballgame than "old procedural javascript".

I work 100% of the time in typescript which of course gets transpiled to
node.js/JavaScript but I wouldn’t say it’s a problem. Quite the opposite in
fact - it’s a massive benefit....and if you already know JavaScript then
learning typescript is like falling off a log. Babel is not much different
- you just have to get used to “compiling” your code - but as born again
RPG programmers that’s second nature :)

the problem I see with using angular and react is you also have to learn
babel and web pack. Where the code that runs in the browser is not the
code you write in the editor. Code is transpiled from react JS or
typescript into javascript. And then bundled into a single JS file. An
alternative is vue.js which lets you code in standard javascript and
still
gives you the data binding of angular.

( I should say, I am not sure what I said about angular and react is
true. )

We have been using PHP on i for a while now with a relatively small

of
quite a large project and want to try and put good building blocks in
place. Looking for recommendations on suitable reference material. Any
