CGI is kind of a "special snowflake" and not even IBM is behind it still. There are costs/risks associated with not being mainstream. We're using it, but really only until something better comes along.

If CGI works, why not create some RPG CGI service calls that return JSON or XML data and then wrap them with a .Net business object.

I also have written a wrapper for XMLSERVICE which works using XMLCGI which is a CGI app.

You can also use the Client Access drivers to access data on IBMi from a .Net service. You can create your own ASP.Net REST or SOAP service pretty easily.

Lots of options depending on your skill levels and team skillsets.
