Also essential (IMHO) is to learn all about a library called "async" (https://github.com/caolan/async) and also learn about "promises" (various flavours)....otherwise forever descend into call-back hell :)

A good place to start is here: nodebeginner.org

Hands on learning: http://nodeschool.io

A short read from O'Reilly "What is Node?":
https://www.amazon.com/What-Node-Brett-McLaughlin-ebook/dp/B005ISQ7JC

A tutorial I've been giving at conferences this spring:
bit.ly/litmislearn-nodejsintro This is done via an IBM i in the cloud ( spaces.litmis.com). Anyone on midrange.com is welcome to try it (no cost). Send email to team@xxxxxxxxxx asking for a promo code.

I have been doing Javascript since the early 2000's and I found the biggest hurdles to learning Node.js was wrapping my head around how insanely asynchronous and event-based Javascript can be on the server side. You won't see as much of this in intro tutorials and instead when you start digging into how bigger projects are put together. At first the amount of async was exhausting, and then I realized how nice it was to have concurrent processing be so inherent.

Happy learning!

Folks:

Can anyone recommend a good node.js tutorial book?

Preferably something that can be purchased at amazon, so I can read it
offline.

Thanks!
