It's alive! I can bring up the web service and run it thru the "Test
Service" successfully.
What is odd is how IWS displays the return parms in the "form" view. It
displays several "groups" and my parms are scattered among them - the others
are "null".
I also don't see a way to view the returned SOAP XML message. If I choose
"source", I just get a string of data. I can see it fine via SoapUI though.
And, lastly (for now), I assume I need some alias in my http config file to
eliminate the default URL, correct?
I'm pretty stoked though. Now, I have to get it to work with a potential
1000 item request.

Greetings, The IWS engine is great choice. This environment supports
either SOAP or REST based Web Services. There are easy to use Wizards
that
can help you create the Web Service over your RPG or COBOL program. As
for
performances, we have MANY user that have leveraged this support, from
basic requests to very complex, from a single request a day to customers
that are using this as the primary method of data transfer between their
UI and their back end in several cases, pushing over a million
transactions a day through the system.

I've been asked if we can provide a webs service to enable order
pricing
- returning info to customers in real time. My response was "Of course
we can". I've always wanted to build one and now is my chance.
At this point, I think I have a blank canvas. As far as I know, we are
setting the rules for this.
So... I'm looking at the IWS server and some examples but could use
some
guidance.
Input will be:
Company Code
Customer Code
Array of items and qty's (could be 1 to 900 items)
Output will be:
Company Code
Customer Code
Array of items and qty's and prices and ... (tbd) (could be 1 to
900 items)
So....
I'm estimating volume will be a few hundred inquiries per day but could
be a few thousand down the road.
Is IWS a good engine for this? If not, what is?
SOAP or REST?
Best practice for handling varying amounts of return data?
XML or JSON?
Any other tips or suggestions?
