Btw, I am going to bring this to IBM's attention. I am guessing it was a
good decision back in the day, but not we need more flexibility.

On a side note, I just installed the non-IBM i version of Apache and will
see how that goes. It might work fine for my needs since I am only using
it as a reverse proxy for Node.js/Ruby/Python/PHP and not for FastCGI.

The DCM APIs** address some of the need, but definitely not all of them.

Using non-IBMi Apache I could do this:

$ openssl genrsa -des3 -out server.orig.key 2048
$ openssl rsa -in server.orig.key -out server.key
$ openssl req -new -key server.key -out server.csr
$ openssl x509 -req -days 365 -in server.csr -signkey server.key -out
server.crt

---httpd.conf---
SSLCertificateFile /path/server.crt
SSLCertificateKeyFile /path/server.key

As best I can tell IBM removed the above two Apache directives from the

IBM

i version of Apache.
