I concur with Robert's suggestion you go straight to WAS 8.5 Express.

Do be warned that in addition to the things Robert said, the packaging in WAS 8.5 was changed quite a bit from earlier versions. The documentation is at best extraordinarily poor, it's written as tough the reader is already a subject matter expert rather than an ordinary user. We found a complete reimplementation of the applications was needed, although in our case we did not have to do much with code.
