Booth

Let me add to Jim's remarks - I just went to the Renaissance framework site (http://www.renaissanceframework.com) and found this item in the list of features -

/The ability to define your own data tables and allow the end user to maintain data through functionally rich web pages without writing a single line of code.

This sounds exactly like what you want, or at least close. Renaissance uses CGIDEV2 as part of its core. If I'm close to correct in describing it that way!!

Net.Data is pretty cool, and it is old technology these days. From my explorations of it 15 years ago, it seemed pretty simple to use.

The nice thing is, CGIDEV2 and Renaissance are also very easy to use - mostly just procedure calls in RPG after setting some values. Ba-da-bing!

So although I really liked Net.Data, I think it is not a good solution in terms of the present and the future. It's like some hardware configurations - there is no upgrade path.

Vern

Actually Booth, If I understood your requirements correctly, there have
been several technologies that match your criteria. The CGI engine from
Giovanni, at easy400.net is closest, but PHP with the Zend Server CE
edition does as well. I think you are trying to put up web pages
without learning additional skills ( or the very least amount of skills
you can get away with ) which is simply not today's world. Pick a
technology, ( Jon listed several ) learn it, and use it. No religion
needed since it really does not matter which one you choose. Pick the
one you like best and go for it.

I hear you Peter. You are right - Net.Data does fit my criteria.
Apparently nothing else comes as close. It is difficult to refrain from
making religious arguments at this point.
