Richard,

No I haven’t used any WYSIWYG SDK’s because they all in basic produce
monolithic code on any platform and besides that they are all unproductive
in large scale development and thereby in modernization.

When I constructed powerEXT, I did it based on prior 8 month development
that was abandoned due to lack of efficiency. I left the “programming
method” and took a more “production method” approach that may be applied to
what 80-90% of programs that a system is made of.

I have owned a VW Golf/4 and an AUDI A4, and basically they have the same
motor and chassis but besides that a quite different appearance. So I have
learned and have concentration on the construction of the motor and chassis
and leaving server robots to do the body work – the appearance – all based
on very simple XML specifications exactly what you feed into the production
system when you order your own incarnation of a car.

Construction of a REST/CRUD service or a Work With function is really the
same, the “motor and chassis” doesn’t change – the appearance does in form
of fields etc. – it is actually that simple – use the same technique, then
you are in production.

Special purpose vehicles have of course to be hand build but they are few.

Henrik and Aaron,

Have you guys used any of the Sencha Design tools ?

The EXTJS stuff still seems to be a bit top heavy to me but I admittedly
have not given it any time.

Kevin,

What I think Aaron means is that in EXT JS we have something called a Data
Store. A Data Store is an object that not only holds the data but also has
a lot of functionality like any other OO javascript object.

When you define a new Data Store you have to configure it with metadata
that describes the JSON object it receives.

In an EXTJS Grid you point the grid to a Data Store but you also have to
define your columns in the grid and in that process point to the Data
Stores description of the JSON object that is within the Data Store Object.

So what you do is (very simplified) ?
