I thought JT400 had trouble returning anything more than an INT from a subprocedure? Or am I mistaken...

Zend Server ships a Java Bridge component in both versions. It is designed to allow companies who have some Java business logic the ability to leverage that in a PHP landscape. Not sure about the point of the question.
