I Actually applaud those that will start with the primitive APIs...
knowing how they work will allow most people to understand the tools
available, how they work and what they should be able to do.

It's sort of like in calculus they'd teach you this hard way, then
show you the easy way to solve problems.. lol... (but now don't
remember either way..)

Although I'm not saying putting these types of things into production
is a good idea. :) CGIDEV2, eRPG SDK, etc.. are much better choices.
But I do feel those that understand the raw APIs will understand the
tools and how to use them better.
