The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

Just about the time you posted this I had hacked on the original version
of my RPG program that had been heavily borrowed from you and the
non-blocking approach worked! But I did download, compile and test this
new version you provided and it also works when called from Apache.
So there *must* be something in Apache that is disabling or changing the
way that signals are used. This is great fix. Thanks for pointing me
in the right direction and providing the code updates. AND I learned a
little bit more about sockets.....

Hi Pete,
I just changed CHKSVRR4 myself, just a "quick-fix" to use non-blocking
sockets instead of signals.
Can you try it and see if it resolves your issue? Let me know.
