Usually I have clients purchase the SSL certificate from their hosting provider. If they are not using a host, try GoDaddy for Domains and SSL Certificates. Their prices are reasonable.

Verisign has a mid $399 price for a 40 bit minimum to 256 key (per year)
and $995 for a 128 minimum to 256 key
Other companies are far less. What have others done for small companies?
