Just as a follow up - based on the information that I mentioned earlier, Bob Bergstrom was able to move his MySQL data without reinstall etc. Here's the step by step instructions that he came up with:
CALL QP2TERM
mkdir -p /QOpenSys/usr/local
cd /usr/local
mv mysql-5.1.35-i5os-power-64bit /QOpenSys/usr/local
mv mysqldata /QOpenSys/usr/local
ln -sf /QOpenSys/usr/local/mysql-5.1.35-i5os-power-64bit mysql
ln -sf /QOpenSys/usr/local/mysqldata mysqldata
modify /etc/my.cnf to reflect directory changes.
