I'm not sure what the internals of the GD/PHP library perform for image generation but we hit issues with Java doing image/chart generation when running on the iSeries because the lack of graphical data stream. We installed NAWT and got it to work. Does a similar issue exist with PHP in terms of generating graphical when running directly on the iSeries? Just a thought...
