Aaron,
I think he's trying to say that with all the requirements and costs to set
up IBM i in the cloud that $65 seems a bit low. Now, if you have an
existing data center infrastructure to put it in, as I think you are
suggesting, you would really need to only get the cost of licensing
brought down to make this more feasible.

Hi Nathan,

I am not sure what you are getting at, but I was not implying that I
am interested in hosting a leasable IBM i in the cloud at my house. I
would rather pay somebody else to do that. What are you trying to
say?

Not only that but I am also trying to convince groups within IBM to
invest in getting "IBM i in the cloud" so geeks like me can run
personal
websites (or side businesses, or start a new business) easily on IBM i
with low cost.

What would it take to put IBM i in the cloud? Attach an accessory
building to
the side of your house? Add electrical and phone wiring? Add portable
air
conditioner? Add a gas powered generator for backup? Buy a 4-core
model 170
with battery backup? Use Systems Director to create 30-40 partitions?
License
a partition for $65 per month?

30 tenants at $65 per month would yield $23,400 per year. Would that
make the
operation worthwhile? DSL in my neighborhood offers 40Mbps download
20Mbps
upload for about $100/month.
