Aaron, do you really find ASP.Net that complicated ? :-)
It's quite easy to build effective interfaces into the iSeries with .Net for client apps, web apps or web services.
Probably quite a bit easier that J2EE, PHP or CGIDEV2 in my opinion.
However I do like your description of how you see it :-)

What if the UI and back office are one in the same? That's the beauty about RPGCGI programming on IBM i - there aren't tiers of technology and servers. Simple architectures are on the rise. People are sick of complexity.
Putting my pants on over my head (Microsoft UI in front of IBMi), I can get my head through one pant leg with some light work, but the battle is only half over, and I will spend the rest of my days trying to get both arms and my body through, all the while wondering why I didn't just start by putting on pants like a normal person.
