One thing I have noticed about my own practices in paying for support when
it is optional is that I don't usually pay for support concerning
development software, but I WILL pay for support when it involves runtime
software. Why? Because I can afford to be down for awhile concerning my
development tools and can take the time to ask a question on a forum where
as I don't have the same luxury with production/runtime software.

Just an observation...

Jon: "Open Source" can mean a lot of different things. Many of the
common open source licenses do not preclude charging money for the
software. At the very least, the hefty price may mean robust support,
something that's important to a lot of mainframe customers.
