"When you use "AS/400", you send the wrong message. I don't think the
"youngsters" know what an AS/400 is. I would expect if they do, they won't
want to work with a platform from the last century.
Maybe if you talk with them about Power Systems and IBM i, you may get some
more converts to our platform!"
I am pretty certain that youngsters have a bit more savvy than to believe
that a name change means something is new. Unless they have become
completely stupid in the last decade. Not sure that patronising the youth is
a good message either.
I would guess most adults AND youngsters don't know what a Power System
(energy drink?) or IBM i (is that like a big iPad?) is. A lot more will know
what an AS/400 is: someone in their ancestral lineage is bound to have
earned a living from it.
Promoting PHP as the language of the future on a platform that is from last
century, underpinned by a language that never quite made it to OO, IS
patronising. If that's the message it's pretty clear why no-one is
listening, and it isn't going to attract the top innovators and thinkers in
the next generation, no matter how many new names it's given.
