Looks hosed up. Can anyone help?
.pid files are usually Process ID files often used as part of a half- arsed locking mechanism, or so a "stop" function can determine the "active" process. Check permissions to the file and the directories in the path. Probably can just delete the file and let it be recreated on start.
A Google search on mysql and pid may help you too.

Simon Coulter.
