Thanks Simon. Turned out to be a red herring. Stopping a non-existent instance from the Zend ZCMYSQL menu generates that error. I had started the instance, which silently failed, and then later when I stopped it, it really wasn't running and generated that error because the process wasn't running. Of course something more helpful like, "The instance is not running" as a message would be a lot more helpful but ....

I still cannot start this upgraded instance using the ZCMYSQL menu. I CAN start it using the mysqld command from PASE so be it must be something in the Zend configuration that is causing the error. I may toss this over to the Zend folks.

Looks hosed up. Can anyone help?

.pid files are usually Process ID files often used as part of a half- arsed locking mechanism, or so a "stop" function can determine the "active" process. Check permissions to the file and the directories in the path. Probably can just delete the file and let it be recreated on start.

A Google search on mysql and pid may help you too.

Simon Coulter.
