Okay, I found the %D parameter. Regarding the numbers reported by SOAPUI and Apache, that's a different puzzle, and my thoughts are in-line with your thoughts. You'd think the server time would be less than the client time.

Would it be possible to test with something other than SOAPUI? I sometimes use Firebug or Fiddler to look at the response time of regular URLs. Mock up an HTML page to post parameters?

Nathan.

Nathan,

Actually, Matt Haas told me about the %D parameter. I guess Robert found
it in the documentation.

Apache logging was turned on because I can see the request in the HTTP
access log. This is in a QA environment and no one else was calling the
web services. I executed the web service call in SOAPUI and when it
finished I looked at the access log right away. The response size in
bytes does match between SOAPUI and the HTTP access log. It is just
strange why the response times don't match. If anything, I would expect
the response time in SOAPUI to be a little longer than what is in the HTTP
access log rather than the reverse.

Dean,

Where did you find the "%D" log format option? I've looked at the
documentation at apache.org and also at the IBM i Information Center. But
I can't find it.

Was Apache logging turned OFF when you tested from SOAPUI. I can see
logging itself adding some overhead.

Hi,

I'm trying to capture some information about the performance of our web
services on the System i. I modified the Apache config file by adding the

%D parameter to the log format. It is my understanding that this will
show the length of time that it took to execute the request in
microseconds. I'm using SOAPUI as my testing tool to call the web
service. In SOAPUI, I see a response time of 419 milliseconds (.419
seconds). In the Apache access log, I see a response time of 919632
microseconds (.919 seconds). Why don't these two match more closely? What

am I missing?
