I've used Smarty; however, I found it to be highly proprietary. If your goal
is to separate your presentation layer from your business layer I would
suggest using PHP's XSLTProcessor. It provides much of the same features as
Smarty and it's a W3C standard. Although, I've found both to be rather
clunky and that's why I've opted to use ExtJS (www.extjs.com) as my
presentation layer framework. Doing so allows you to create a true layered
architecture, allowing you to focus 100% of your PHP code on business logic.
Mind you, this approach involves a steep learning curve if you're unfamiliar
with client side scripting. Hope I gave you some ideas to think about. :)

Does anyone use Smarty and if you do, how's that working out for you?

Thanks,
