I take it you're referring to this:
"The first AS/400 (perhaps iSeries at that time) release supporting Apache
was V5R1. In my opinion, that initial support was not much, so I started
using it with V5R2."
If so, that statement is wrong and somewhat misleading.
What is wrong is that the Apache based server was available on V4R5 and
what is misleading is that while the very first release of it (and also the
only release) was pretty limited (it was based on an Alpha release of Apache
2.0), it was very quickly replaced with a full featured version.
Feature-wise, there isn't much difference between what was available on V5R1
and what is available now. The biggest change is the introduction of the
fast response cache (this was introduced after V5R1, don't recall the
release).
I ran a fairly busy production site on V5R1 with the Apache based server
for a couple of years and I can tell you for a fact that it was not feature
limited.

Matt,
I eventually came across my source suggesting that the original HTTP server
should be used with V5R1. It was a fairly recent doucment by Giovanni
Perotti - see
http://www.easy400.net/cgidev/pdfs/About_HTTP_directives_for_CGIDEV2.pdf
Best wishes

Rob,for
Where did you find it published that the Apache version isn't the best
V5R1 (it does stink on V4R5)? I ran it there for several years withoutof
problems. In fact, it made my life much, much easier since virtual hosts
were easier to maintain.
As far as configuring the Original server goes, I don't think I have any
those configurations around any more. I know that I learned how to setall
of that up using the documentation from the InfoCenter. It may be worth aOn
look there.

Thanks Matt
I am using the original HTTP server on this V5R1 box because I have read
several well known published experts say that this is best on V5R1 and
Apache should be left for V5R2 or for V5R3 when there is no choice. I do
use it on a V5R3 box but, since I rarely need to change the
Irestart
am even less skilled on that than on the Original server.
I tried putting in a Protect statement but without success. I did
the server.based
I already had a protection directive - please could you tell me what the
protec tstatement should say and where it should go?
Many thanks

Rob,
First off, why are you still using the Original server? The Apache
putone is much, much better.On
To answer your question, you are missing the Protect statement.

Subject: [WEB400] Using UserID and Pawword with HTTP server (V5R1
I have got to the stage with my CGIDEV2 development where I now want to
work
using User IDs. According to the manual, including
Protection /cgi-bin/stipple/* {
Authtype Basic
Userid %%CLIENT%%
PasswdFile %%SYSTEM%%
}
in my HTTPCFG file should do the trick but nothing happens. I have
this ahead of my Exec statement which reads
Map /cgi-bin/stipple/* /QSYSLIB.LIB/E290PRDOBJ.LIB/E290G00000.PGM
This exec statement works fine.
I wish to use standard User profiles rather than a password file.
Can anyone please tell me what I am doing wrong?
Many thanks
