Should a sourceforge project be created for stuff like this?

I don't have much experience with open-source repositories, or open-source development. But what kind of structure would encourage and facilitate contributions (other than lip service) from others to the project?

It seems that a number of open-source projects never reach their potential because only one programmer is contributing all the code. And how fair is that?

Wouldn't it be better to host source code, plus development, plus run-time environments under an IBM i server? To create some community unity?

I am interested in this from a completely different angle, as I have found there is a missing piece for creating Java components related to AS/400, namely routines hooking the logging frameworks like log4j into the AS/400 infra structure, and that this is something that would benefit most of us.

Get an error? Put an entry in the appropriate message queue, drop a line in the job log, send a mail with the AS/400 program I cannot recall right now the name of, etc. All configured outside the component itself. It is a very powerful concept.

I did quite some experiments to see what worked best for us, and the combination of a long term log file with non-debug information, and debug messages printed to the console (wrapped suitable to fit within 132 characters) have been pretty effective.

Is this something that would interest others than me?
