Developers must address the privacy issue by software design, to make privacy possible, but let service provider's and end-users come up with a privacy policy that both agree to.

That hits on a very recent concern of mine. For a business to run its business, I've been an occasional passive/agressive advocate for thin-clients ever since I heard about them, and especially since I saw an article in the mid-to-late-1990s no less about a Canada-wide implementation with Linux thin clients in which the lines served up ONLY the display text and GUI-required content, with the server being an AS/400. One of the early models too. With lightning implementation.
BUT Richard Stallman's comments on cloud computing resonated with what I've thought all along about it, in that I don't want intrusion into my stuff, and storing my personal stuff on somebody else's server is too much exposure.

My initial thought about web portals was to access multiple sites from multiple <iframes>, but now I think the UI needs to be even more seamless. Pull content from multiple sites, but aggregate it with a seamless UI.

Exactly what I was going to post, FWIW.

You might need to create a small piece to run on the client side though, I don't think HTML will cut it, and I don't know enough about Java but am not convinced for it...
