I've just started learning about JS libraries - one called jQuery has stuff that can handle this very easily - book I'm reading is from O-Reilly, called JavaScript: The Missing Manual - something like that.

If I understand correctly, you want to add event listeners for mouseover and mouseout events, but remove them after the focus event is triggered.
