I think the big question is, what's "high-traffic".

And to further qualify the question, is traffic due to a large number of users, or is it due to a large number of requests from relatively few users? What about sites where keystrokes trigger requests? For example, sites similar to Google Suggest, where each keystroke evokes DB I/O and Screen I/O to fill in a drop-down combo box? Or suppose you have a user interface that enables users to press and hold down PageUp or PageDown keys to fire off repeated requests to the server, each triggering a new page?
