Hi John;

It is very easy to put limitations into IceBreak .. ( IceBrakes ?? ) and
make that distribution available free - we already have and it is called
IceBreak-Inspire. However, the whole idea here was to go "open-source".

At the end of the day I think it will be like the Zend/mySQL model:
services, binary installs, extended features, support, and applications
running on top of it.

We have to change the paradigm: now the server has a price but the
applications and frameworks are free. To server is free / open source but
the applications and frameworks has a price....

Thanks for your input

Best regards

However, it requires that we can come up with another way to drive our

Look at Zend, MySQL, or SugarCRM - all of them appear to make money.

There are two obvious areas, service/support contracts, and selling
"deluxe" versions with additional features.

One of your competitors (while not open-source) has an interesting
model - the IDE is free and the server software is free for up to ten
users. Beyond ten you pay for additional capacity.
