The one thing I didn't understand is how input data was mapped to the
various programs (in potentially a dynamic fashion). So for instance let's
say a HighSchool teacher wanted a listing of all students with a grade A
average or better for the honor roll, she would want to enter a date range,
maybe a class level (freshman, sophomore, etc), and the grade level to
include (i.e. A and above).

What I have found in open source report tooling is that the power of the
tool is it's ability to have reports built by a power user that have
dynamic-ness built in (i.e. criteria fields).

I put together a few screen shots, code samples, and brief explanations
of the project I'm working on which pairs a programming interface with a
user interface for generating and working with reports in a catalog.
It's still very much a work in progress so any feedback would be
helpful.

Although I plan on adding some features for interactive and ad-hoc
reporting, the system is geared more toward maintaining a catalog of
reports run in batch settings such as invoice or statement generation.

Aside from any helpful feedback that I may receive, another motivation
for sharing this is to spotlight IBM i centric innovations which may
inspire confidence in the platform, and particularly in the use of
native languages and programming interfaces to implement modern
solutions.
