I've always advocated this, Joe. You should have had this on record over 10
years ago. I always teach to learn the basics first, then once you
understand what you're doing creating static pages, it's a snap to build
dynamic ones.

In other words, like I've mentioned for years as well, if you don't know
what you're working with, it's hard to put it to effective use.

This is nothing new, at least from me.
Yeah, you've always been pretty straightforward about that, except that you've been pretty anti-AJAX, so the fact that most of Nathan's demos use AJAX seems to sort of go counter to your concepts.

I still question the phrase "it's a snap to build dynamic ones". It's not a snap to go from static pages with no JavaScript to dynamic web applications. To do what has been shown requires some serious knowledge of JavaScript and the DOM, knowledge which isn't required in JSF, since it hides it (note this has nothing to do with EGL; I'm talking about JSF here).

Anyway, I'm glad everyone is on the record here. I wanted to be sure that everybody knows that RPG-CGI isn't simply creating a static page in Dreamweaver and then attaching some tags. If you want to create web applications with tagging languages, you need to know HTML and JavaScript and DOM.

Or you can use JSF, which may be a little bit more confining, but is a lot easier to use if you have a good tool.
