The "special" version was never that great. IBM removed some
functionality from the open source version and the version they released
had all sorts of security holes. One thing you'll need to do with the
pure open source version is make sure that you download the latest
connector from the same site.

I like this. Why should the iSeries have a "special" version of Tomcat.
Now it's the same as every other Tomcat, downloaded from the same place,
with the same features and bugs. Seems like the smart thing to do to me.

I did see that HATS LE is toast IN V5R4.
