Paul, It will take a lot longer than 3 hours for everyone to see the change. DNS changes typically take 48-72 hours to propagate across the Internet and can takes weeks in some cases. I'm no expert on DNS but typically what you'll have is an A record for your domain name itself (domain.com) and then CNAME records for any other host names (such as www.domain.com) on that same IP address. A CNAME record is just another alias for a given IP and by using them, it cuts down on the number of entries that need to be changed when an IP address changes. For a couple of host names, having multiple A records isn't a problem but when you start getting a lot of host names for a given IP, it really cuts down on the work you have to do. You may also see MX records which are used for email only. Those should be left alone unless your mail server is moving as well. I found the A records and the CNAME on Domain Direct (sheepish grin). I am setting up the A record - since it is a static IP address that I have. It says it will take up to 3 hours to apply. I assume I can disable the Domain Forwarding when the A record is set up? Thanks to everyone - I have learnt something new today :-) Regards Paul Tuohy ComCon +353 1 282 6230 www.comconadvisor.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul Tuohy" <tuohyp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: "Web Enabling the AS400 / iSeries" <web400@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, December 07, 2005 4:33 PM Subject: Re: [WEB400] Apache configuration question > OK, I don't see anything on Domain Direct that allows me to specify a > CNAME or A record. > > I do have "Advanced Options" that allow me to specify my servers - but I > guess that means that I would need to be running my own DNS. > > I am having a look at ZoneEdit (thanks Nathan) > > Regards > > Paul Tuohy > ComCon > +353 1 282 6230 > www.comconadvisor.com > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "David Gibbs" <david@xxxxxxxxxxxx> > To: "Web Enabling the AS400 / iSeries" <web400@xxxxxxxxxxxx> > Sent: Wednesday, December 07, 2005 3:23 PM > Subject: Re: [WEB400] Apache configuration question > > >> Paul Tuohy wrote: >>> I have a registered domain which I want to forward to an IP address. >>> It works fine but the resulting URL shows the IP address as opposed >>> to the domain name.
