Frank,

If you're using the Apache based server (and you should on a V5R1 or
V5R2 system and have to starting with V5R3 ), you can use the
documentation at http://httpd.apache.org (make sure you look at the 2.0
documentation). There's also a book called "Professional Apache 2.0"
that is excellent. Both sources basically have the same information but
the book has a few chapters that cover the basics of web serving and
goes deeper with it's examples. It also has a great section on regular
expressions which you may need for more advanced topics.

Most of the configuration directives are the same between the Open
Source version (the two big exceptions are SSL and the options available
for basic authentication). Also, you may want to download a binary
version or Apache 2 from the Apache site to get it's configuration file.
It's very well commented and full of examples. Also, you can play around
with Apache on your own PC and directly apply that knowledge to your
iSeries.

The InfoCenter has some information that is pretty useless in it. The
help available through the admin GUI is better but doesn't hold a candle
to the above sources.

There is a RedBook on configuring Apache but I had things pretty well
figured out by the time it came out so I never dove too deep into it.
You should be able to find it at
http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/portals/iseries.

Also, you may want to dig through the list archives for this list and
over at http://www.ignite400.org. There have been plenty of examples
posted to both lists in the past.

Subject: [WEB400] Suggested Redbooks for HTTP Server & Directives

I accidentally opened up our development system to the outside world by
starting all HTTP servers. I was quickly informed of my error by
another
programmer working with the servers.

They had asked me what I was trying to do and I said that I was
experimenting with CGIDEV2. She informed me that the server I was using
isn't setup correctly and that my directives are also not setup
correctly.

Does anyone have any suggested reading material or Redbooks that will
get
me up to speed on HTTP server & directives setup and configuration?

Thanks,

Frank
