WAS dropping dead on AS400 connection error

We have recently started using Websphere Application Server 5 and have
found an interesting problem.  We have an application that simply
connects to our iSeries with the IBM Toolbox AS400 object and does some
ProgramCall stuff.  Well it turns out that we didn't have the IP address
configured properly so it wasn't able to find the host.  When the
application crashed it is bringing down the entire WAS server.  This is
a big problem because we are going to have other mission critical apps
running in the same space.

Has anybody else ever had this problem where a simple connection error
will crash the entire WAS server requiring a restart?
