How to edit Apache server configs?

Folks:

What's the best way to edit an apache server config?

Since my experience with apache has all been in Linux, I'm quite familiar
with editing the httpd.conf file directly.

I'm trying to document some configuration directives to be added to the
apache config to support our product, and I want to make sure we tell the
users how to do the best way.

Should the configuration be edited via the admin interface, editf, pc
editor, etc?
