Hi All,

I'm setting up security for an HTTP server powered by Apache, and it works,
but when accessing the site from IE5.5, I get a "Security Alert" window that
tells me there's a problem with the server certificate -- "The name on the
security certificate does not match the name of the site." Does anyone know
what it's comparing to what?

The server name in the configuration matches the certificate common name,
and that same name is in my host table. What am I missing?
Had this today as we renewed our certificate and swapped from assoftw.avenum.com to www.avenum.com in the certificate.

AFAIK: The client compares the value from the certificate, e.g. www.mysite.com with the name from a DNS request for the IP. So when this delivers e.g. myserver.mysite.com there's a difference and the browser warns you.

Mozilla delviers a better error message than Internet Explorer; it was clear then for me.
