I feel I can make a legitimate and timely contribution. I presume that deployment of this application is time critical (aren't they always?) and presumably will wish to be fully tested (Shouldn't they always be?) TestBench will test the AS/400 server side of the application and now in combination with our latest product TestWeb, we now offer end to end automated testing from the front end to the back office. I am going to develop a new application on the AS400 v5r1. I want to keep my business logic completely in RPGLE using DB2/400 as the database. My problem is that I need browser based screens and I am not able to decide whether I should use Java or CGI to handle browser requests. If you can make your business logic in nice, neat, callable programs... I would suggest you put your UI in java and/or jsp & call the RPG to complete the business logic. This will require a lot of up front planning (which can't hurt no mater what), but I think you will be pleased with the result ... especially when it comes to changing the business logic, as you just change the called RPG program and the UI doesn't have to change at all. It also has the advantage of allowing the experts to work on what they are best on ... your business speciallists can design and/or code the RPG, the UI experts can code the java/jsp. david _______________________________________________ This is the Web Enabling the AS400 / iSeries (WEB400) mailing list To post a message email: WEB400@midrange.com To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/cgi-bin/listinfo/web400 or email: WEB400-request@midrange.com Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/web400.
