Creating XML is easy. Parsing XML is more difficult, but easier to do if you use java vs. RPG in my opinion. Awhile back I posted an app I wrote to do something almost exactly similar to what you need to do. Check out this page: http://rpgenerationx.com/e-rpg/DSPMSG?forum=cvJava&msgid=0000004 I used jdom (jdom.org) to parse and build my XML. In all reality you don't need a parser to build XML. You could just code stuff like the following: eval XML = '<xml><PO number="12345"><item>hat</item><item>shoes</item></PO></xml>' and then send that to where ever it needs to go whether it be a response to an HTTP request or if something made a RPC (Remote Program Call) to your RPG program. Also, check out IBM's alpha works site: http://alphaworks.ibm.com/ which will give you a ton of info on XML (more than you want and maybe not everything you need). Basically you just need to dive in head first and see what works best for you. I have to create an XML document, send it to ups's server, it will calculate the shipping cost, receive the data back on my 400 and write the data back to the browser via CGI. I have no clue where to start!
