I humbly suggest that the extensive body of CGI is due, in part, to inertia. It was the only thing available, so it got used by early-adapters. As more people start to understand the business implications, they will be looking for better solutions; those folks *will* accept java and other solutions because they it is easier (in their minds) to code and is stable and robust.
