Since reading about others having issues upgrading is there a recommendation on how to proceed if we are worried about messing up our installation. I have several plugins and also have Tomcat installed on my RDi which was a pain to get working so don’t want to lose it.

I myself didn't have any issues at all, and I have several plugins,
including something I slammed together, meaning a lot of tinkering,
and not particularly professional/polished, but it worked after the
fixpack. Here's what I did:
1) Close RDi
2) Make a copy of my workspace. I do this before every release, major or minor.
3) Make another copy of my workspace, and name it rdi9801.
4) Open RDi 9.8.0.0, change the workspace to rdi9801.
5) I did not use Auto Update. I downloaded the zip, pointed to the
archive, and the update went very quickly.

If I understand Mike, if you let Eclipse auto update any of its base
code (ie anything not copyright by IBM), things go sideways.
So I accidentally got lucky by not doing an auto update with
everything turned on.
