Use this link to download the Snippets plugin:

Exit RDi, then drop it in your RDi/plugins folder.  Restart and the Snippets view is back.  You will need to create a "category" before it lets you can import snippets, but you can delete that temp category after you import a category of your own.

I have not tested **yet** if the RDi config Push will sync snippets if the plugin is installed before you connect to your server the first time.  I suspect it will, but will test that on Monday.

I was so thrilled that it actually installed a worked simply on a Mac that I didn't put the beta through any extensive testing. Just used it as usual alongside Code for i and didn't encounter any issues.

See me pulling some of that heap on me, too! I was pretty much really happy about the unzip and run installation - also tried something in RSS that didn't work, but I think I didn't understand. It works now - host variables and parameter markers - what an amazing thing that makes my life much better!

Hi,

well - I think for part of this, I have to blame myself.

I was part of the 9.8 beta test, and the missing Snippets feature really doesn't "popped" up during my tests - although "we" (my company team) are heavy Snippets users.

Hi Jason

There are customers who take part in the beta phase. If those customers happen not to use a feature, it won't be tested. I know that not all of us use Snippets, yet, for example.

And I also recognize that this doesn't build more confidence for you - it just maybe explains part of the process.

I agree with you that it may not have been intentional, (removed from
base Eclipse) but if that is the case then how was it not caught during
testing? Daniel and myself are not the only two people in the world
using Snippets. So, that brings into question how is the Rational team
even testing? Do actual customers get to use the product during it's
beta phase, or do they just wing a ding it?

Subject: [EXTERNAL] Re: [WDSCI-L] RDi 9.8 vs. Code Snippets
Hi,

Thanks - already done this, but the import/export and automatic distribution feature of RDi (which was present in 9.6) doesn't work for Snippets anymore. It works for Remote System Connections and Filters - but not for Snippets.

So we need another option for central Snippet management for out development team.

Daniel

From Jason Olson, previous thead.

Just open: Help -> Eclipse Marketplace ...

Then install "Eclipse Web Developer Tools 3.5" - after a restart, the Snippets view is available. It will be under General.

Hi,

we're on RDi 9.6 right now, and we're making intensive use of the Code Snippets feature. We have standardized program headers and re-occurring standard procedures where we are replacing table and data structure names with those "&{something}" replacement variables. We also distribute those Snippets over our development server to all RDi users.

Now with RDi 9.8 the Snippets view is gone - we can get it back by installing "Web Development Tools" from the Eclipse Marketplace - but we cannot use the automatic distribution feature anymore, because Snippets are exported in 9.8 - and if we export with 9.6, they aren't imported in 9.8.

So what now? Is there a good replacement? We aren't "Snippets addicted" but we really need something like that, if Snippets aren't supported by RDi anymore.

So what are we looking for:

- should work easily with RDi (LPEX)
- should support RPGLE, DDS, DDL maybe CL
- central "code snippet" repository - maybe GitHub?
(We're already hosting a private GitHub instance)
- replacement variables (at least)
- maybe some kind of light scripting?
- or conditional insert (like /if defined ...)

Any ideas?

TIA
Daniel
